Rising is everything you want in a book. It is captivating, well written, it will give you all the feels, and the characters are real. The author has created a world that will draw you in and keep you going back even after the book is over. This story gave me a book hangover. I had a hard time leaving the world, my mind kept wandering back to the characters and everything that happened in the book, and also trying to figure out what will happen in the next book.

Eve lives in a world many may not be able to relate to because of the dangers that are a daily part of it. All can relate to a young girl just trying to better herself and make it through her senior year. Hoping she can get into a great college on scholarships and grants and get her and her sister out of the notorious Blue Houses. Eve’s life revolves around keeping her head down and trying to stay invisible so that the gangs in her area don’t notice her.

Vincent seems to live to different lives. There is the life he lets Eve see parts of and then the life that he refuses to let her see. Vincent to me seems like a lot of normal college age guys. He is torn between expectations and the things that make him happy. He has lots of secrets that he won’t let Eve in on but he also seems like his truest self when he is around her.

Get lost in this world; it will make you want to keep revisiting it again and again. I am so excited for the next book. I really want to get lost with the characters and their lives. This book reminds me of the old school indie authors and their writing styles. It is a fantastically written story.
