BOOKED EVERY NIGHT
One Night Promised
By Jodi Ellen Malpas
Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He's heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she's almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she'll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin . . . signed M.
All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment, nothing but pleasure. Every defense mechanism Livy has adopted during her solitary life is at risk of being obliterated by this confounding man. He's obnoxious but well-mannered. He's a gentleman but aloof. He's passionate but emotionless. Yet the fascination is so powerful, Livy can't deny him... or herself.
M awakens something in Livy, something deep and addictive that she never knew existed -- and that she fears only he can satisfy. But she senses that behind the fast cars, fancy suits, and posh apartment, he's aching inside. To have him, body and soul, she'll have to brave his dark secrets. Delving into his world and breaking down his defenses become her obsession - an obsession that could shatter her heart beyond repair..
Review
JEM has done it again in my opinion! This is the start of another captivating series. Two broken people who are trying to find their way in life cross paths that inevitably change the course of their lives forever. Exactly how it changes them and whether it is for better or worse is yet to be known.
"I believe that you're the master of your own destiny- your own decisions and actions are what influence your life course. But unfortunately, the decisions and actions of others impact this course, too, and sometimes you're powerless to prevent it."
~ Olivia Taylor
I love M and all his habits. You learn that he requires control in all aspects of his life. We don’t really find out why in this book but I am sure it will come up in later books. I am very interested to find out the why behind how he behaves. There is more to Miller than we find out in this first book and it makes me want One Night Denied even faster. Who is M really? We are given bits and pieces of this complicated man but not enough to truly understand him.
Livy is a girl I can relate to in some ways. Trying so hard to not be something or someone, that she loses herself along the way without realizing it. Livy is closed off and letting life pass her by without really participating in it. She has her Nan and her best friend Gregory but that’s it. All it takes is one man to turn her world upside down. He awakens parts of her that she tried to keep locked in boxes. He stole the key and opened those boxes. Livy isn’t the only one whose world was turned upside down by the chance meeting.
There is also all those secondary characters that to me truly make a good book great. Nan is an amazing grandmother who Livy is helping take care. She has been through so much in her life and all she has left is Livy and wants to see her happy. The way she goes about it is hilarious. I really love Nan because she reminds me in ways of my grandma.
“Have you got sun tucked away in your socks, Livy?”
~ Nan
Gregory is not only Livy's best friend but he pretty much is Livy's only friend. He loves Livy but isn’t afraid to tell her what he thinks is best for her. No matter if she listens to him or not he is there for what she needs.
JEM is the queen of nail-biting, want to scream at your Kindle endings and I love it!!! This book is no exception either. There are so many questions I have after that ending. I swear I got more questions than answers when I finished reading. This is how I like my series though. I want to anticipate what will happen in the next book and question whether what I think is going on in my head is where the author will take the story or will she throw a curveball at my thinking and go a completely different way.
I cannot wait for One Night Denied!
JEM you have certainly done it again. You created a world that has sucked me right in and refuses to let me leave.
“I want to surrender myself to you completely, Livy. I want to be yours. You are my perfect.”
~ M
