BULLY

Bully

by Penelope Douglas

I'll admit that I struggled with this book for the first 5%. Nothing to do with the author's capabilities I'll add. Nope, I am just SO BORED with high school romance right now. I seem to have read that many that they all blend into one…

Until now.

"Bully" was like a breath of fresh air. Stereotypes were turned on their heads when we're introduced to Tatum "Tate" Brandt, a seventeen year old who's being bullied…by a boy. Jared Trent has made her life a misery since she was fourteen. They'd been the best of friends, until that summer. But that summer changed everything, and the kicker was, Tate didn't even know why.

This book is fast paced, and I'll admit that once I got a feel for the characters I couldn't put it down. My only grievance would be that the characters act much older than they are supposed to be. Tate is only seventeen and yet her father, who is away on business in Germany, has let her live at home alone. In the same vein, Jared's mother is rarely around, and he has the freedom to throw raucous parties every weekend. This stretched things a little for me, but not to the point where it spoiled the story.

Overall, a great read. I've already downloaded Until You (Fall Away #2) and although I'm slightly nervous that it'll just be "Bully" retold (something that I detest BTW), I'll definitely give it a go. Penelope Douglas' writing is solid, and I look forward to seeing what more she has to offer.
